Laura Nachman's TV Poll
(Bucks County Courier Times)

Second half results are in ...

Here are the results of our readers' poll. Thanks to everyone who voted. Percentages were rounded off to the highest number.

Favorite Weekday Sportscaster
Gary Papa - WPVI - 46%
Vai Sikahema - WCAU - 21%
Lou Tilley - CN8 - 12%
Don Tollefson - WTXF - 8%
Beasley Reece - KYW - 4%
Scott Palmer - WPVI - 3%
Geraud Moncure - WPHL - 0%

Shame on me for not including former WPHL sports anchor Mike Missanelli, who probably would have garnered many votes.

Favorite Weekend Sportscaster
Steve Bucci - KYW - 26%
John Clark - WCAU - 21%
Howard Eskin - WCAU - 18%
Phil Andrews - WPVI - 15%
Blaine Applegate (fill-in) - WPHL - 11%
Bill Vargus - WTXF - 10%

Young and enthusiastic John Clark has made an impression on Philadelphia in the little time he's been on the air. Looks like Pennsbury High's Blaine Applegate has some Bucks county fans.

Favorite Sports Reporter
Jack Brayboy - WPVI - 36%
Garry Cobb - KYW - 31%
Bruce Casella - CN8 - 22%
Gregg Murphy - CN8 - 11%

Favorite Weekday WIP Personality
Angelo Cataldi - 19%
Anthony Gargano - 15%
Steve Fredericks - 13%
Mike Missanelli - 13%
Rhea Hughes - 13%
Al Morganti - 10%
Howard Eskin - 8%
Glen Macnow - 6%
Joe Conklin - 2%

Members of the morning show accounted for almost have of the votes. Vinnie the Crumb of WMMR also received a write-in vote.

Favorite Part-time WIP Host
"Big Daddy" Graham - 33%
Ray Didinger - 25%
Steve Martorano - 14%
Dick Jerardi - 10%
Paul Jolovitz - 8%
Rob Charry - 4%
Sonny Hill - 2%
Luci Jones - 2%

"Big Daddy" enjoyed extra exposure this year when he took over the overnight shift while Steve Fredericks was on sick leave. BCCT football writer Reuben Frank also received a write-in vote.

Favorite Play-by-Play Announcer
Harry Kalas - 47%
Tom McGinnis - 18%
Scott Graham - 12%
Merrill Reese - 12%
Marc Zumoff - 3%
Tim Saunders - 1%
Jim Jackson - 0%

It's a little surprising that Kalas didn't win by a larger margin. Next to Kalas' "It's outta here," McGinnis has the best catch phrase with "Are you kidding me?"

Favorite Analyst
Steve Coates - 22%
Larry Anderson - 18%
Steve Mix - 14%
Gary Dornhoefer - 11%
Mike Quick - 11%
Chris Wheeler - 9%
Tom McGinnis - 7%
Brian Propp - 2%

Note that while neither of the Flyers' play-by-play men scored well, "Coatesy" won his category.

Favorite Comcast SportsNet Personality
Michael Barkann - 36%
Leslie Gudel - 25%
Derrick Gunn - 11%
Neil Hartman - 11%
Ron Burke - 5%
Dei Lynam - 5%
Lance Crawford - 4%
Mike Rodgers - 2%
Matt Yallof - 2%

It's no shock that Barkann was victorious, since he can show more personality on his "Post Game Live" shows than the others can on "SportsNite."

Favorite Comcast SportsNet "Post Game Live" Analyst
Vaughn Hebron - 28%
Ray Didinger - 22%
Joe Kerrigan - 18%
Keith Jones - 10%
Ed Rendell - 8%
John Nash - 6%
John Marzano - 4%
Dave Brown - 2%
Steve Coates - 2%
Gerald Henderson - 2%

The most popular team, the Eagles, has the two most popular analysts. Just think how many votes Didinger would have received if he wore a leather jacket and knit cap on the air.

Favorite Sunday Night Sports Show
Sports Final - WCAU - 75%
Sports Sunday - WTXF - 18%
Sports Extra - WPHL - 7%
Sports Rap - KYW - 0%

New KYW general manager Peter Dunn should re-evaluate the anemic "Sports Rap."

Favorite Weekday Sports Show
Daily News Live - Comcast SportsNet - 50%
Lou Tilley's Sports Connection - CN8 - 30%
SportsNite - Comcast SportsNet - 20%
Spotlight - Comcast SportsNet - 0%

Maybe the attraction of "Daily News Live" is to see how the fashion-challenged sportswriters will dress each day.

Favorite Eagles Show
Eagles Total Access with Gary Papa - WPVI - 44%
Eagles Post Game Live - Comcast SportsNet - 32%
Angelo Cataldi Show - Comcast SportsNet - 9%
Game Day Live - WTXF - 5%
The Andy Reid Show - WPHL - 5%
Eyewitness Game Day - KYW - 3%
Pro Football Report with Merrill Reese and Harry Gamble - CN8 - 2%
The Donovan McNabb Show - KYW - 0%

How can the most popular athlete in town's (excluding Allen Iverson) show come in dead last?

Best Radio Broadcast - Professional Teams
Eagles - WYSP - 42%
Sixers - WIP - 25%
Phillies - WPEN - 21%
Flyers - WIP - 12%

Sponsor-crazy, Led Zeppelin-loving WYSP takes the top spot. Let's hope that WPEN doesn't get any ideas and starts playing Bobby Vinton bumper music.

These are the results of the first half of the poll regarding TV.

Here are the results of our readers' poll. Results were rounded off to the highest number.

Favorite News Station
WCAU-10 - 45%
WPVI-6 - 40%
KYW-3 - 8%
WTXF-29 - 5%
CN8 - 0%
WPHL-17 - 0%

Though WPVI won the Nielsen ratings in November, WCAU was named favorite station over its nemesis. KYW and WTXF were far behind, but at least they got votes unlike CN8 or WPHL.

Favorite Evening News Anchor - Weekday
Jim Gardner - WPVI - 35%
Larry Mendte - WCAU - 16%
Renee Chenault-Fattah - WCAU - 14%
Pat Ciarrocchi - KYW - 5%
Monica Malpass - WPVI (substitute) - 5%
Lisa Thomas-Laury - WPVI (on medical leave) - 5%
Mike Dardis - WPHL - 2%
Rob Jennings - WPVI (substitute) - WPVI - 2%
Larry Kane - KYW (departing) - 2%
Rich Noonan - WTXF (departed) - 2%
Denise Saunders - KYW - 2%
Dawn Stensland - WTXF - 2%
Ukee Washington - KYW - 2%
Rick Williams - WPVI (substitute) - 2%
Connie Colla - CN8 - 0%
Tracy Davidson - WCAU - 0%
Arthur Fennell - CN8 - 0%
Marc Howard - WPVI (in transition from WPVI to KYW) - 0%
Dave Huddleston - WTXF - 0%
Toni Yates - WPHL - 0%

The 6 p.m. anchors Jim Gardner of WPVI and Larry Mendte and Renee Chenault-Fattah of WCAU dominated this category. Gardner led with 35% of the vote, but Mendte's 16% and Chenault-Fattah's 14% combined to bring WCAU close to Gardner.

Favorite Evening Weather Anchor - Weekday
Cecily Tynan - WPVI - 35%
John Bolaris - WCAU (departed) - 33%
Glenn "Hurricane" Schwartz - WCAU - 25%
Dave Roberts - WPVI - 13%
Chris Dunn - KYW - 0%
Rob Guarino - WTXF - 0%
Steve MacLaughlin - WPHL - 0%
Robyn Stevens - CN8 - 0%

This was a battle between the top guns of WPVI's Cecily Tynan and Dave Roberts vs. WCAU's John Bolaris and Glenn "Hurricane" Schwartz. WPVI must be happy that Bolaris is gone, and Tynan will become the undisputed weather champion in town.

Favorite Morning News Anchor - Weekday
Rick Williams - WPVI - 27%
Monica Malpass - WPVI - 16%
Tiffany McElroy - WCAU - 14%
Pat Croce - WTXF (substitute) - 8%
Mike Jerrick - WTXF (departed) - 8%
Steve Levy - WCAU - 5%
Sharon Reed - WCAU (departed) - 5%
Amy Caples - KYW - 3%
Kerri Lee Halkett - WTXF - 3%
Tom Negovan - KYW - 3%
Beth Trapani - WPSG - 3%

The superteam of "Rick and Monica" won the category for WPVI. Did WCAU give up too soon on Tiffany McElroy, who was recently taken off the morning news? It seems that McElroy has connected with Philadelphia more than WTXF counterpart Kerri Lee Halkett.

Favorite Morning Weather Anchor - Weekday
Bill Henley - WCAU - 37%
David Murphy - WPVI (substitute) - 20%
Sue Serio - WTXF - 20%
Tom Lamaine - KYW - 14%
Karen Rogers - WPVI (substitute) - 9%

WCAU's steady Bill Henley won over likable Sue Serio of WTXF and David Murphy of WPVI. If Cecily Tynan, who was moved to evenings a few weeks ago, was listed in this category, I'm sure she would have won.

Favorite Traffic Reporter
Dorothy Krysiuk - WTXF - 34%
Amber Rupinta - WCAU - 31%
John Valerio - WPVI - 17%
Bob Kelly - KYW - 7%

WTXF's Dorothy Krysiuk and her successor at WCAU, Amber Rupinta were in the fast lane here. Krysiuk and weather anchor Sue Serio are the bright spots for "Good Day Philadelphia."

Favorite Weekend Anchor - Evening
Rob Jennings - WPVI - 50%
Monique Braxton - WCAU - 23%
Robin Rieger - KYW - 10%
Ren Scott - KYW (departed) - 10%
Joyce Evans - WTXF - 3%
George Mallet - WTXF - 3%
Karen Jordan - WPHL - 0%
Jim Sinkovitz - WPHL - 0%

It's no surprise that veteran weekend anchor Rob Jennings easily won this category. WCAU should be pleased about the strong showing for Monique Braxton who has been the constant on the weekend news this year.

Favorite Weekend News Anchor - Morning
Anita Brikman - WPVI - 34%
John Blunt - WCAU - 22%
Lisa Mishler - WCAU - 19%
Scott Palmer - WPVI - 19%
Carol Erickson - KYW - 7%
Brandon Brooks - KYW - 0%

Maybe Scott Palmer has a future in news as he did better in this poll then in the sports poll, which prints tomorrow. Palmer and Brikman are yet another strong anchor team for WPVI. Bucks county resident Lisa Mishler also did well.

Favorite Weekend Weather Anchor
Kathy Orr - WCAU/KYW - 50%
Sally Ann Mosey - WPVI - 32%
Paul Deanno - KYW - 7%
Carol Erickson - KYW - 7%
Karen Thomas - WTXF - 4%
Tracey Humphreys - WPHL - 0%

Though Kathy Orr has been off the air for months due to maternity leave and her impending move to KYW, her fans haven't forgotten her. It looks like KYW made the right decision to steal her away from WCAU.

Favorite Medical Reporter
Cherie Bank - WCAU - 44%
Anita Brikman - WPVI - 18%
Dr. Brian McDonough - WTXF - 18%
Dr. Doron Schneider - WPVI - 15%
Suzanne LaFrankie - CN8 - 3%
Stephanie Stahl - KYW - 3%

Experience counts as 20-year-plus fan favorite Cherie Bank easily won over the WPVI combo of Brikman and Schnedier.

Favorite Off-beat Reporter
Don Polec - WPVI - 44%
Sheela Allen Stephens - WCAU - 21%
Gerald Kolpan - WTXF - 18%
Paul Moriarty - KYW - 18%

Polec dominated this popular category. I'm a Sheela Allen Stephens fan.

Who will be missed the most?
Larry Kane - KYW - 43%
John Bolaris - WCAU - 31%
Mike Jerrick - WTXF - 14%
Rich Noonan - WTXF - 9%
Sharon Reed - WCAU - 3%
Ren Scott - KYW - 0%

Though KYW's Larry Kane wasn't named favorite anchor of many voters, he will be missed the most. It doesn't seem like many miss Sharon Reed, who was exiled to Cleveland earlier this year.

Favorite Daily Local Show
"10" - WCAU - 35%
Good Day Philadelphia - WTXF - 35%
It's Your Call with Lynn Doyle - CN8 - 31%

All three shows can be proud as "10" began only last year, "Good Day" tied for first, despite being in a state of flux with the changing of hosts, and "It's Your Call" is holding its own for CN8.
